Rookie Bangers Rules and Specs 2010

NEW RULE AMMENDMENT
It is the responsibility of the Driver to adhere to the following:
All wheels must have the correct amount and correct type of wheel nuts fitted to all wheels, e.g. steel wheel nuts for steel wheels and alloy nuts for alloy wheels. Any after market wheels will need to have been advised from manufacturer.
The correct amount of wheel nuts for the wheels MUST be fitted to the wheel at all times, this includes that your car must have wheel nuts correctly torque prior to scruitineering and during racing. You will have to sign at scrutineering to say that you have correctly identified and torque your wheels to the correct setting.
It is the drivers responsibility to check the torque settings of your wheel fitments and we recommend checking the auto data technical book or auto data direct or the manufacturer of your vehicle to obtain the torque rench settings for the vehicle you intend to use.
Should you change a wheel during racing it is the drivers responsibility to notify us immediately once work is complete and you will have to sign again to say that the you have correctly torque your wheels to the correct settings.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ANY CAR PRESENTED FOR SCRUITINEERING OR PRE/POST RACING WITHOUT CORRECT WHEEL NUTS WILL BE LOADED AND NOT ALOUD TO RACE

1. ELIGIBLE CARS
1. Any right-hand 2 wheel drive saloon, hatchback or estate car with a steel body with an engine
size not exceeding 2000cc, with either carburettors or Multi Point Injection.
2. INITIAL PREPERATIONS
1. Remove all exterior mouldings, screen glass, door glass, lamps and handles.
2. Remove all interior trim, & passenger seating.
3. Remove the fuel tank, spare wheel carrier & tow bar if fitted.
4. Remove all obsolete wiring and interior debris from the car.
5. Plastic front & rear bumpers must be removed, but a front steel bumper of Cortina type can be used to protect the radiator, no aluminium bumpers or box section bumpers. Bumpers can be tack welded as a secondary fixing.
6. Read & familiarise yourself with the Banger Rules & Regulations for preparing the race car.
3. PERSONAL SAFETY
Drivers are advised that under Health & Safety, they are responsible for their own and their
Mechanic’s actions. Drinking alcohol is not permitted, Should an incident occur that proves fatal on the raceway and you are involved, it is likely that the Police will want interview you. If you drive, don’t drink! Scrutineers and Officials will report to the Clerk of the Course, anybody they believe is under the influence of Drink or Drugs. During 2008 Drivers whom it is thought are under the influence, may breathalysed.
4. Flags as used by the Starting Marshall & Trackside Safety Staff.
· Waved Green Flag – Go, the race has started.
· Waved Red Flag – Stop racing, slow down and stop immediately.
· Chequered Flag – The race winner has crossed the line, continue to race until the Red Flag
is shown.
· Held Yellow Flag – Beware, you are approaching a hazard on the track, continue to race with
caution.
· Waved Yellow – Slow down, hold your position, and do not overtake any other
cars. The pace car is entering the circuit to control the pace until the raceway is clear to race.
· A Blue Flag – The race has become processional, you may not pass another driver without
attempting to spin them out.
· Black cross on a White board – You have committed an infringement and will be penalised
in the results.
· Waved Black Flag - You are disqualified, pull off the track immediately.
Drivers are also reminded that they should line up on the grid with their engines switched
off in the correct points order, unless told otherwise.
5. SAFETY EQUIPMENT
5.1 CRASH HELMET
A Crash Helmet having a minimum specification as detailed by the British Oval Racing Safety
Executive (BORSE). Visors or Goggles must be worn for racing or practice.
Polycarbonate (Plastic) helmets of any type are not permitted. E2205 Fibreglass type A, The Snell foundation 1 SA2000-SA2005
5.2 RACING OVERALLS
You must wear Fire retardant minimum proban, clean, un-torn and brightly coloured Racing Overalls
that are made of a proban material and are clearly marked. Mechanics are also required to wear clean overalls and will not be permitted on to the track without them being on, when instructed to do so, wet weather clothing can be used as over garments only.
5.3 A NECK BRACE
Is recommended, so to is a spine support.
5.4 FIRE EXTINGISHER
It is advised to have a 1kg dry powder Fire Extinguisher with a sight gauge, either fitted in a tube
with a spring over the top fitted in the car or easily accessible on the race transporter. The
Green CO2 type of extinguisher is not allowed. Transporters to carry a 2kg dry powder extinguisher.
5.5 DRIVERS SEAT WITH HEAD RESTRAINT
You must have a Driving Seat with a head restraint. The seat should occupy its original position and be tied to the b post for support not the H Frame.
5.6 SAFETY HARNESS
A minimum 4 point Safety Harness fitted to manufacturers specification of fitment should be used, minimum of 3” wide strap on either an aircraft or nascar quick release buckle.
6. VIOLATIONS
1. When referring to the engine, gearbox, final drive, mechanical or construction Rules & Regulations, the
principle will always be: Unless permission is specifically granted to make modifications (or any
variation) nothing may be done to alter or change the Standard Parts in any way.
2. It is the responsibility of the Driver to prove to the Promotion that the part is legal, by way of written
proof of where the part originated. This must be undertaken within 7 days, otherwise the item in
question will be deemed illegal, resulting in immediate suspension from racing & referral for disciplinary
action. Unless the rules say you can do it, you cannot do it!
3. Presentation of a Vehicle for Scrutineering is a declaration by the entrant that the vehicle is eligible for
that event.
4. Car engines & fuel will be checked on a random basis. Violations or refusal to allow an engine check
will result in an immediate suspension of all racing facilities.
5. All Car and Engine Specifications will be taken from either the manufacturers Technical Specifications
or the Technical Service Data books as published by Glass’s Guide.
6. Should a discrepancy occur between the Specifications then the Promotion will exercise its judgement,
and that decision will be final.
7. Clarification on any one item may be sought from the Promoter.
8. Each driver is permitted one car per meeting & each car is permitted one driver per meeting.
7. GENERAL RULES OF RACING
This formula Rookie bangers is a nudge and spin formula, racing in clockwise rotation of the circuit, contact is allowed turning of the car in front is allowed to the infield only, you may push a car along the straight, but must let it go at 90degrees to the turn into a bend, no following in or turn to the wall, no following in, or hitting a stationary car or attacking on or off of the infield. You will receive a black flag for this and will be penalised.
8. ROLL BAR
1. A Steel “H frame” or Hoop, made out of box or tube with a minimum size of 50mm or 2” or a
100mm or 4” maximum size, must be constructed behind the driving seat as close to the “ B
posts” as possible, to support the roof area & for protection on any side impact. The “H
frame” feet, top & bottom, must have plates attached to them so that the feet can be bolted,
by a minimum of 2 bolts per foot, on to the floor and roof.
2. The “H frame” fixing bolts for the feet have a minimum diameter of 10mm. and 17mm minimum bolt head and nut size
3. The H frame must have a minimum of 2 straight cross bars, one at roof height to
support the roof and the second much lower towards the middle of the frame, to act as a side impact brace. The lower cross bars must have end plates attached to them with a maximum size of 127mm or 5” square. The end plates may be extendable, but they must be welded or bolted to the frame, with no other extensions going forward or backwards. However, it is permitted if the Roll Bar
is positioned slightly behind the “B posts”, to have forward facing extensions that bolt through
the “ B posts” & then on to the end plates of the “H frame”.
4. It is recommended that whenever possible to bolt the end plate to the door plate.
5. fuel tank, battery must be fitted securely to the “H frame”.
6. Any part of the cage coming in to contact with the driver must be padded.
7. Your life depends on this structure and Scrutineers will not pass them if they are not satisfied
with its construction.
9. BODYWORK
Doors
1. The Drivers door is only part on the car that can be welded shut and
a piece of box or tube can be welded to the lower window aperture. No other welding is
permitted anywhere else on the car apart from the sun roof plate and a maximum 6” length of box in the top of the drivers rear door.
2. All the other doors must be fastened, Seat belt webbing must be used
3. A driver’s door plate must be fitted & overlap the door pillars by a minimum of 3” but no more than 6” overhanging past the a or b post. NB. No trench plates are permitted.
4. The plate must be a minimum of 10mm or 3/8”, to a maximum of 19mm or 3/4” in thickness.
5. Its depth must be no less then 254mm or 10” & no more than 15”.
6. The plate must be fixed by either four 19mm fixings or six 8mm fixings, through the door
pillars with large washers on the inside.
8. The door plate holes must not be slotted. And A & B post bolts MUST be fitted and bolted.
9.1 Passenger door plates can be used on a, b posts to wing and doors but no bigger than 300mmx 300mm plate. Corner bonnet plates can be used from wing to window aperture to stop the bonnet coming in. all drivers door plates, H frame, passenger plates must be minimum of 19mm spanner head size bolts for fixing with Large washers to stop nuts pulling through skins. Seat belt only to strap the front of bonnet and boot lid shut. All gas support struts to be removed.
Front & Rear Bumpers
All bumpers plastic or steel must be removed. No tow bars must be left on the car.
Front Wings
The lower part of the wing may be trimmed level to where with the top of where the bumper was.
Bonnet Fixings
1. Seat Belt Strap only, corner gusset plates can be welded onto top of wing and scuttle panel.
Boot Fixings
Seat belt strap only, no bolts or plates, additionally all doors must be secured with seat belt strap.
10. ENGINES
1. The engine must remain as it was produced in its standard form.
2. The air filter may be removed of replaced.
3. The carburettor body & Venturi’s must not be altered or modified from the standard design.
4. injection can be used, but you must fit a kill switch to disable the electric pump immediately when it is switched to the off position.
11. GEARBOX
1. The Transmission must be kept as produced for the model in its standard form.
2. You may not lock the differential.
12. WHEELS & TYRES.
1. Wheels are free on each axle, tyre gaiters are allowed.
2. All wheel fixings must be in place. And at scruitineering you must sign a form acknowledging this.
3. All wheel weights & hub caps must be removed
4. Any standard road wheel steel or alloy up to a width of 6”.
5. No Weller rims unless it’s an FSO. No centre hub caps.
7. You are not allowed to do the following:
Use racing tyres. 50/55 low profile tyres, Mud & Snow tyres, Alpine tyres, Nobbly or any type of
Competition tyre, Town & Country tyres, 7.3 Avon Turbo Speeds, Yokohama’s, Colway
Competition tyres, Tread cut tyres, Tyre with the markings erased.
13. EXHAUSTS
1. An exhaust silencer must be fitted and reduce noise. It does not have to be the original
manufacturers system it must be of 2 box minimum terminating no shorter than the rear axle centre point and not exceed 96db,
2. No competition type systems are allowed.
3. Extra secondary fittings are permitted.
4. Ineffective or systems that become insecure while racing will require you to pull off the
circuit, as you will be excluded from the results & get a black flag.
14. COOLING SYSTEM
1. Radiators are free but must be fitted at the front of the engine.
2. Electric cooling fans may be wired through a separate switch.
15. BRAKES
1. The standard manufacturers system must be used & work on all 4 wheels.
2. The handbrake must also be operational.
16. FUEL SYSTEM
1. The tank must be metal & have a maximum capacity of 9 litres. No converted fire extinguishers are allowed.
2. The fuel tank must be fitted to the “H frame”
3. Fuel caps must be of a metal screw type, no push fit types are allowed
4. The fuel outlet must be from the top of the tank.
5. The tank must have a positive means of fixing.
6. A breather pipe must be fitted which should incorporate a one – way valve, with the pipe
terminating below the tank so as to prevent spillage if inverted.
7. All fuel lines must be of good quality rubber or be metal covered, no rigid metal piping is
allowed.
8. Only roadside fuel can be used. No additives are allowed.
9. If an electric pump is fitted a cut off switch must be in close proximity of the driver.
10. injection can be used but the electrical isolation switch (cut off switch)must be fitted in the N/S/R window area of the B post, for easy access of Safety Marshalls
17. BATTERIES & THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
1. The Battery (only one battery is allowed & it must be similar in size to the original one that
was fitted as standard) must be securely fixed & covered with a rot proof material, if it is not
of the sealed cell type.
2. The Battery must be fitted to the H frame.
3. The battery must be a minimum of 152mm or 6” away from the fuel tank.
4. No seatbelt straps must interfere or come into contact with the battery.
5. A battery master switch must be fitted in the rear left-hand window and clearly marked “ONOFF”
or have an electrical danger decal. The cut–off switch must break the earth connection lead.
6. A self-starter motor must be fitted & working at all times.
18. FIN PLATES
1. Fin plates must be fitted above the roof line but they should not be larger than 305mm or
12” by 559mm or 22” wide.
2. Fin plate numbers must be 229mm or 9” high by 38mm or 1½” in width, black numbers on a
white background. Please ensure they are correct.
19. SPECIFICATION AND RULE CHANGES
The Promotion may at any time make amendments to the Specifications for the following reasons:
· In the interests of Safety
· Reduce costs for the driver
· In areas that are detrimental to the future of the formula
· If an unnecessary advantage has been deemed.
Current registered drivers will be notified automatically of any changes.
20. BOOKING IN AND ROOF GRADINGS
You must book in by no later than the Thursday prior to wishing to race on either 07952 858 805(Craig) we do not operate an answer phone system, so your call will be logged and booking taken, if you fail to book in by this time you will have to pay a fee of £5 towards admin costs on the day, make sure that you book in yourself, as to use the excuse “my mate booked me in he must have forgot” will not stop you paying the £5 admin fee on race day.
If you do not hold a Trojan International License you will have to pay a day license fee of £15.00 also should you not produce your Trojan/Star license at time of signing on you will also have to pay a day license fee of £15.00 YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Drivers are also reminded that roof grading’s will remain the same as end of 2009 for re licensing drivers, new drivers will start as white grade, a points system will be in place, points will be added 2 days after you race a meeting, it is your responsibility as a driver to know your roof grade and start in that grade at each race, should you fail to start in the correct grade you will forfeit points and prize monies that you may gain. Again you have been warned! Drivers also note that should you not know your grade you should query this at driver’s brief, roof grades will also be available to see when signing on.
Where fixtures read (app form) an additional payment will need to be made to sign on, this fee is £10 Trojan Licensed drivers and £15 not Trojan Licensed drivers. This is towards your prize money pot on the day.

If you intend to race any meeting you must book in to race on 07952 858 805(Craig), 07952 235 105(Nadine), this booking must be received by no later than 10am on the Thursday prior to your meeting you intend to race. On a Saturday Sunday or Monday fixture, or by the Monday on any Wednesday fixture. Your booking must be made by yourself and not (I got my mate to book me in, he must have forgot)! failure to do this and book in by this date you will find yourself paying £5 to race on race day towards admin costs, we do not operate an answer phone, so your booking will be taken and logged internally if you ring"
Drivers are reminded that you will be charged gate admission at the rate of £10 per driver, however should you race we will log your number on our internal system and every driver will be refunded their admission monies after their 2nd heat which will be payable at the trackside office the blue building in pit lane by the raceway itself. You must race to obtain a full refund of your gate admission
it is your responsibility as a driver to know your correct roof grading prior to each meeting starting, it is also your responsibility to paint your whole roof with the correct colour grading, gradings can be obtained at drivers brief or from pit office at time of signing on or by contacting us 3 days after your last meeting.
Additionally should you start any race on any meeting in your wrong roof grading you will then forfeit your right to any prize monies or points you may win or obtain on that day.
It is also your responsibility to produce your driving licence/log book when signing on, failure to do this will result in you paying a £15 day license irrespective if you hold a license with us YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Where it reads App forms on any fixture a £10 fee will be payable by a licensed Trojan driver (you must also produce your license book), or you will pay £15 this fee is also payable by non Trojan Licensed drivers,
